Forty-three museums scattered throughout the Province of Siena are part of the Fondazione Musei Senesi

A unique museum system which collects different institutions devoted to art and archaeology, anthropology and ethnography, science and nature for the purpose of preserving and enhancing in a concerted action the great treasures of a land that looks to the future in full awareness of its extraordinary history.

The foundation's purpose is to support the museums and to effect an integration with the cultural heritage of their location, whose areas of excellence they manifest. This is the guiding concept of a capillary network of museums offering an exploration of the diverse souls of the Province of Siena: the Elsa Valley, Chianti, Siena, the clay fields and the Arbia Valley, the Merse and the Orcia Valleys, Mount Amiata, and the Chiana Valley – a veritable open-air museum made up of invaluable archeological evidence, outstanding masterpieces of art, and the skills and customs of the communities that developed them in centuries of an ongoing dialogue between man and nature that is the quintessence of Tuscany.

The Fondazione Musei Senesi, born in 2003, has been founded for promoting the knowledge of this area and of its extraordinary heritage, consolidating and developing the museum system created in the '90s by the Province of Siena, thanks to the support of the Supreintendencies, the Municipalities, the Dioceses, the Monte dei Paschi Bank and Foundation, the University and the Chamber of Commerce.
